El convento de Santo Domingo de Tui en la España sagrada de Enrique Flórez: un dibujo inédito del relieve fundacional

Resumen: El convento de Santo Domingo de Tui (Pontevedra) está situado extramuros de la ciudad, en el llamado campo del Rastrillo, cerca del río Miño. En 1765, el prior fray Lorenzo de Pontones y el cabildo catedralicio enviaron unos apuntes histórico-artísticos sob re el convento al P. Enrique Flórez, que preparaba los tomos 22 y 23 de la España Sagrada, dedicados a la diócesis de Tui. Ambas descripciones se refieren al relieve fundacional con inscripción, que rememora la construcción del convento en su segundo y definitivo emplazamiento (1390) y su intención piadosa: pro anima de los fundadores y mecenas. Además, a la información del cabildo, acompañaba un dibujo de las imágenes representadas y del epígrafe. Tanto los documentos como el dibujo son inéditos. En este estudio se analiza el contenido histórico y el significado del relieve original (1330) y del dibujo (1765) en relación con la devoción dominicana.

Abstract:  The convent of St. Dominic of Tui (Pontevedra) is located outside the city in the so-called “campo del Rastrillo”, near the Miño river. In 1765, the prior fray Lorenzo de Pontones and the chapter of the cathedral sent some historical-artistic notes about the convent to the Fr. Enrique Flórez, who was preparing the volumes 22 and 23 of the España Sagrada, dedicated to the diocese of Tui. Both descriptions refer to the funeral-foundational relief with an inscription, which commemorates the construction of the convent in its second and final location (1330) and the pious purposes that were with him: in favor of the soul of the founder and their patrons. In addition, information from the chapter, was accompanied by a drawing of the images represented and of the epigraph. Both the documents and the drawing are unpublished. This study analyses the meaning of the original relief (1330) and drawing (1765) in relation to the Dominican devotion.
