Vicisitudes del convento de San Pablo de Valladolid en el siglo XIX

Resumen:  Desde comienzos del s. XIX la comunidad dominicana de San Pablo estuvo afectada por numerosos sustos. Entre ellos, la invasión francesa y el decreto de extinción del convento impusieron un breve y obligado abandono del templo y residencia. En los veinte años siguientes, los frailes consiguieron restablecer la vida comunitaria en la ciudad: dos décadas de una corta historia zanjada bruscamente, en agosto de 1835, por la política exclaustradora y desamortizadora, con la consiguiente dispersión de todos sus miembros. Desde entonces, el patrimonio del exconvento dominicano sigue una azarosa peripecia, hasta que a finales del s. XIX retornan sus antiguos propietarios. Será en 1893, bajo el amparo del cardenal Antonio María de Cascajares cuando los dominicos regresen a la capital castellana y reinicien su secular andadura hasta la actualidad. De esta compleja y desconocidas historia da cuenta esta investigación.

Abstract: From the early 19th century, the Dominican community of St Paul was affected by a number of shocks. Among them French invasion and the decree that extinguished the convent imposed a brief and forced abandonment of the temple and priory. In the next twenty years, the friars were able to restore community life in the city: two decades a short store, abruptly finished in August 1835, due to the secularizing politics and the legislation of Ecclesiastical confiscation that brought with them the dispersion of all the friars. Since then, the heritage of the former Dominican convent follows and eventful vicissitude, until its former owners come again at the end of 19tc century . In 1893, under Cardinal Antonio María Cascajares, the Dominican return to the Castilian capital and resume their course to date. This investigation is about this complex and unknown history.
