ABSTRACT: This study attempts to reconstruct the vicissitudes which the building Santa Cruz la Real de Segovia experienced over the course of contemporary times.
Following the splendor of the modern period, the political convulsions of Spain in the first third of the 19th century resulted in the definitive expulsion of the convent`s monks. First was the French invasion, with its resulting fires, looting and destruction.
Later, in 1836, the secularization under Mendizabal. After seizing the convent, the Government ceded the building to the Segovian provincial government to be used as a Hospice. The chapel or Cave of Saint Dominic, separated from the convent, began its decline as a Dominican sanctuary.
