Abstract: Dominican Order established their convent in Caracas in December 1597. Almost one century later, the laical branch of the Order, the so was called “Third Order of Penitence” was established. The Visits of the Provincials of the Province of Santa Cruz de Indias are the main theme of this study. In those Visits the books were examined and in the conversation with the the Third Order´s members , Provincials corrected and promoted the Dominican life among them. This took place from 1747 until the closing of San Jacinto´s convent in 1837; although the priory was founded at the end of XVIIth Century, there is no documentation of that period and that is why the information is very limited.
