The famous Francisco de Vitoria chair at the University of Salamanca
Abstract
Abstract. Francisco de Vitoria has always been regarded as a key intellectual figure in the realm of International Law. In 1926, four hundred years after he earned the famous Cátedra de Prima (Prima Chair) at the Universidad de Salamanca, a brilliant symposium was held with major Spanish, American, and European participants, in order to honour and celebrate him. On that occasion, an endowed Chair was created, so that Salamanca would always hold in rememberance such a major intellectual and his doctrines. This paper traces the full history of this Chair.
Keywords: Francisco de Vitoria, Salamanca, Chair, International recognition of Francisco de Vitoria and his legal doctrine, outstanding professors who occupied the Chair and their teachings.
