The rules of the Brotherhood of the Rosary of Burguillos del Cerro of 1588

Abstract

This article presents the interesting rule of the Brotherhood of the Rosary of the Badajoz town of Burguillos del Cerro from 1588, that is, in the stage of uni-versalization of Rosario after the Council of Trent and the great victory of Lepanto. The tenor of the chapters evidences a double character in the brotherhood: firstly, that it is a corporation predominantly of suffrage and, secondly, its cultic and festive dimension. This rule adapts with originality and realism the universal nature of the Brotherhood to the environment and local interests.
