Los comienzos de la Cofradía de Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Manila (1594-1650). Notas históricas de una institución colonial de la Orden de Predicadores
Abstract
Resumen: La oración y devoción del Rosario en Manila constituye un aspecto muy Importante de la evangelización española en las Islas Filipinas y especialmente de las Misiones de la Orden de Predicadores. El hecho de la que nueva Provincia se denomine de Nuestra Señora del Rosario es harto significativo. Este artículo quiere ofrecer una aproximación novedosa respecto a este tema, centrándome en el estudio de la primera etapa histórica de la Cofradía del Rosario de Manila, institución elitista y colonial poco conocida, pero sin duda importante y extensiva de la predicación de la comunidad dominica, para entender la gran devoción a la imagen taumatúrgica de la Virgen del Rosario desde 1593 hasta la actualidad, donde la fiesta y procesión del primer domingo de octubre “La Naval” sigue siendo una referencia fundamental en la religiosidad popular filipina.

Abstract: Prayer and devotion of the Rosary in Manila is a very important aspect of the Spanish evangelization in the Philippines. The fact that the new Dominican Province is named od the Holy Rosary is sick signifcant. This article aims to provide a novel approach on this iusee, focusing on the study of the first historical stage of the Confraterniy of the Rosary in Manila, elitist and colonial Little known institution, bur certainly important and extensive of the preaching of the Dominican community, to understand the great devotion to the miracolous image of Our Lady of the Rosary from 1593 to the present, where the party and procession of the first Sunday od October “La Naval” remains a key reference in Philippine popular religiosity.
