Abstract
ABSTRACT. The devotion to the canvas of Santo Domingo of Soriano Calabro, to which a celestial origin, acheropite, was attributed, served to reinforce the prestige of the Dominican Order when the Catholicism is plagued by Protestantism. In addition, because the relics of Saint Dominic were few, the representations derived from Soriano took their places. A whole iconography is developed; at first, faithful copies of the canvas of the Holy House was made, and then the descent of the Virgin Mary is represented, accompanied by the patrons of the Order, Saint Mary Magdalene and Saint Catherine of Alexandria to deliver the canvas with his own hand to brother Lorenzo, representing to the Dominican family.
