Keywords:
Zaragoza, Jaime MoncayoAbstract

Abstract: Early in 1621, Jaime Moncayo, former Prior of the Collegiate Church of Borja and then Canon of the Cathedral of the El Salvador, Zaragoza, agreed with the provincial authorities of the Order of Preachers to found a friary in his native city dedicated to St. Peter Martyr (Peter of Verona). This was the last masculine religiuos community created in Borja, and it also marks the close of the Order`s expansión in lands of the Kingdom of Aragón. The present work examines the historical circunstances surrounding the process of its foundation, and the long- lasting lawsuit initiated due to the opposition of the city´s secular and regular clergy.
