Abstract: The Dominican Juan López de Caparroso was one of the most important figures of the Order of Preachers in the 16th and 17th centuries. Promoted by Philip II to the Episcopal seat of Cortona, and subsequently to that of Monopoli, he collected a large number of relics which he sent in several remittances to the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria in Borja, his native city. There, early in the 17th century, his sister María López de Caparroso transformed the original humble project of the Bishop, planning the building in a sumptuous burial chapel with a great altarpiece where the exceptional collection of relics could be installed.
