Abstract
ABSTRACT: The Rio de la Plata diocese was a late creation and from the beginning it dragged problems both economically and in communication with the civil and ecclesiastical authorities. The four bishops covering the 17th century carried out their work, often with the support of the local authority, others, confrontin with them. A few little is known about each of them, mainly because the documentation related to these relations was preserved in the notary of theArchdiocese of Buenos Aires, disappeared in the fire of 1955.The third dignitary of this diocese was Fray Cristóbal de la Mancha and Velasco who is especially remembered for having summoned the first, and until a year ago, the only diocesan synod. However, this work shows him as a pastor concerned about his flock, an orderer of eclessial life and devout of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Keywords: Cristóbal de la Mancha y Velasco, O.P.
