Abstract
ABSTRACT. This study reveals an exceptional source for the research and history of San Esteban de Salamanca. It is the plan drawn up in 1867 by the Army Corps of Engineers, while the complex functioned as the Santo Domingo barracks after the forced expropriation of the property from the religious. After a comprehensive analysis, it has been possible to reconstruct the articulation of various areas, among which the novitiate prior to the current student building stands out, unknown until now. This military plan stands as a unique testimony to the state of the building in a stage of various changes, allowing to recreate the layout of the convent before the modifications undertaken between the end of the 19th century and the first decades of the 21st century. The information is complemented with other no less important sources, such as the ichnographic plan of the area of the novitiate and dormitory of the Theology teachers of the Dominican convent, signed in 1744 by Manuel de Larra Churriguera, Francisco Álvarez, José Antonio Otero and Manuel Rodríguez. Keywords: convent of San Esteban de Salamanca, Santo Domingo barracks, Spanish confiscation, plans, novitiate, refectory, guest house, infirmary, visual studies.
