  4. If there is more than one bibliographical entry, it should be ordered in chronological order (from old to new).
  5. Oeuvres of an author should be ordered alphabetically if there is no year difference.
  6. Under no circumstance it is possible to include works that were not explicitly cited. It is not a general bibliography, but a “cited bibliography”.

Abridging
Abbreviations in Spanish are chosen:

  • Cfr., in regular, not cf. italics; “See” rather than vid.; etc.
  • page-pages: p.-pp.
  • volum-volums: vol.-vols.
  • editor-editors: ed.-eds.
  • translation/translator-translators: trans.
  • coordinator-coordinators: coord.-coords.
  • director-directors: dir.-dirs.
  • note-notes: n.-nn.
  • number-numbers: no.-nos.
  • following-followings: s.-ss.
  • verse-verses: v.-vv.
  • sheet-sheets: f.-ff.

With the final purpose of standardize criteria, we recommend to use the following style to cite sheets: f. 1r, ff. 1ra-2vb, without superscripts.

Quotation marks system

When citing, angle quotes should be used («»). When citing a text within other text, English quotation marks should be used (“ ”). If a third text has to be cited inside the second text, this should be between simple quotation marks (‘ ’). So:

  • General quotation marks: « ».
  • Quotation marks within general cites: “ ‘ ’ ”.
    Examples:
«Las dos ediciones que siguen, que traen invariablemente el “corregida y ‘aumentada’”, son cada vez menos confiables».
  • For indicating changes of meaning or other uses: ‘ ’.

Footnotes
Superscripts should be after punctuation, quotation marks and brackets.
Example:

Other format guidelines

  • Ellipsis should not have any separation space after the preceding word.
  • If the ellipsis is indicating an editorial elimination, therefore it should have a separation space previously and after ( … ).
    Example:
Deus, refúgium nostrum et virtus, adésto piis Ecclésiæ tuæ précibus ... Per Christum Dóminum nostrum.
  • Normally, it is not recommended to use bold and italic.

Biblical notes
Bible references should be based on the model of Jerusalem Bible. Examples: Lc 15, 2 or Is 3, 4-5.
